Ayodele Fayose says he rejected a political offer from President Tinubu, vowing to stay out of office while naming Peter Obi as the opposition’s strongest contender.

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has revealed that he turned down an appointment offer from President Bola Tinubu, declaring he has no intention of reentering public office. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Fayose said despite his cordial relationship with Tinubu, he will not join or work for the All Progressives Congress.

“Asiwaju asked me, ‘What would we give you?’ I said, ‘Nothing, sir,’” he disclosed. “At 65, I’d rather be at home… I’ve served well. Two-time governor, I’ve done well.”

Fayose stressed that friendship should not be mistaken for political allegiance. “I’ve not been with APC, but I’ve been Asiwaju’s friend and brother for a long time,” he said.

On the 2027 elections, Fayose asserted that Labour Party candidate Peter Obi is currently the only opposition figure with significant traction. “Despite not being in government, he is the only one talking and everywhere. I give it to him,” he added.
