Governor Fubara says he and Wike have reconciled after Tinubu’s intervention ended Rivers State’s political crisis.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Friday announced that he and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have reconciled, ending months of political crisis in the state.
The rift between both leaders had prompted President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency, during which Fubara, his deputy, and members of the House of Assembly were suspended for six months.
Tinubu lifted the emergency rule on Thursday and ordered Fubara’s reinstatement. On his return to Port Harcourt, the governor confirmed the truce.
“In the course of the six-month period, Mr. President graciously brokered the peace process with all the parties successfully,” Fubara said in a statewide address. “Our Leader, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and I … have all accepted to bury the hatchet and embrace peace.”
