The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has explained the absence of WiFi at Nigerian international airports, citing an inter-agency dispute.
Speaking on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Keyamo said, “The first situation I tried to solve was an argument between two of my agencies on who was going to take care of Wi-Fi.” He revealed that the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) believed it was their responsibility based on their mandate covering communication and navigation equipment. However, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) argued that WiFi falls under airport infrastructure, which is their domain.
Keyamo said the matter was resolved last year with NAMA taking charge. But since the 2024 budget had already passed, the project was delayed. “It has now been captured in the 2025 budget,” he added, assuring that WiFi will be available at Terminal 2 of Lagos airport by year-end through a Public-Private Partnership.
