Confidence Rufai, daughter of late Super Eagles legend Peter Rufai, has explained why her father kept his illness private, saying it was in line with his love for a quiet life.
Speaking at a tribute event organised by Segun Odegbami and sponsored by Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, Confidence said, “To those who felt hurt by the secrecy, I apologise. My dad loved privacy… He never sought public sympathy.”
The tribute night, held at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs in Victoria Island, also honoured other late sports icons including Moses Effiong, Charles Bassey, Christian Chukwu, and Obisia Nwakpa.
Confidence described her father as a selfless patriot who served Nigeria wholeheartedly. “Describing my dad goes beyond words. He was a father figure not only to us but to many,” she said.
She revealed that burial plans are underway, adding, “His burial date will soon be made public.”
NAN reports that Rufai died on July 3, 2025.
