President Bola Tinubu is unlikely to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 election.
President Bola Tinubu is unlikely to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 election, despite internal pressure and speculations. Names floated as potential replacements include former Zamfara governor Abdulaziz Yari, NSA Nuhu Ribadu, and ex-speaker Yakubu Dogara, among others. Advocates cite strategic religious and regional balancing. However, insiders insist Tinubu values Shettima’s loyalty and political strength in the North.
“President Tinubu will not risk dropping Shettima in 2027. The vice president is an asset to him,” a source told Vanguard. “He has a formidable structure… He was the first to support Tinubu before APC.”
Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga dismissed any rift, stating running mates are decided post-primary. Shettima’s track record, loyalty, and competence, along with his wife’s strong bond with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, reportedly bolster his position.
“Shettima… has not failed in any assignment given to him by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” another insider noted.
