FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has alleged that former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi instructed a military general to assassinate him during the 2019 elections.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi of directing a military officer to assassinate him during the 2019 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, Wike alleged that then–General Officer Commanding 6 Division, General Saham, “tried to kill me.” He claimed Amaechi promised to make Saham the next Chief of Staff if the plan succeeded.
“General Saham ordered that I should be shot. When I heard that he is now in the NSA office, I refused to go there,” Wike said. “General Saham ordered that as a sitting governor that I should be shot. And when the Colonel refused, he was detained for six months.”
Wike maintained that many opposition governors who now complain of persecution have not endured the threats he faced while in office. Amaechi and the Nigerian Army have yet to respond to the allegations.
