“He’s only hungry for power,” says Wike as he fires back at Amaechi over birthday comments.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent comments about hunger in Nigeria. Speaking at his 60th birthday, Amaechi had said, “We’re all hungry, all of us are. If you’re not hungry, I am.” Reacting during a media chat on Monday, Wike accused him of using the occasion to mislead Nigerians.
“We have no time to listen to nonsense in Nigeria… I don’t understand why a man like Amaechi would choose his 60th birthday to lie to Nigerians about being hungry,” Wike said. He argued Amaechi had held power from 1999 to 2023 and never raised such issues until now.
“They are only hungry for power,” Wike added, accusing Amaechi of attempting to incite public sentiment and form a new opposition coalition.
“Let’s see how he plans to remove the president. Is it a military coup?… I am not a liability; I am an asset,” he concluded.
