Wike says crime rate in Abuja has declined, dismissing claims of a spike following the murder of Arise TV anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says the crime rate in Abuja has declined despite recent high-profile incidents, including the killing of Arise TV journalist Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, Wike challenged claims of worsening insecurity, asking journalists to “provide statistics” before alleging a spike in crime.
“So when you talk about the spikes, what are the statistics? Just because a colleague of yours was involved, then you say there’s a spike. You have no statistics,” he said.
He stressed that “security agencies have done well,” noting that crimes occur everywhere but insisted the capital remains safer. “The rate of crime in Abuja has drastically reduced,” he added, while urging continued vigilance by law enforcement.
