Wike insists he has no presidential ambition for 2027 and remains committed to supporting President Tinubu.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has refuted claims that a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is pressuring him to contest the 2027 presidential election. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, on Friday, Wike described the report as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”
Olayinka stressed that Wike’s allegiance remains firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” he said, adding that those circulating the rumour were engaging in “kindergarten tactics.”
He clarified that the only recent meeting involving PDP southern stakeholders on August 20, 2025, was to discuss internal party zoning issues, not any presidential bid. “Wike does not function in hiding. He does what he says, and says what he does,” the statement added.
