“This is a country where somebody on social media will say Mr President is a criminal; nothing will happen,” Wike said.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday criticised activist Omoyele Sowore for describing President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal,” a comment that has drawn federal charges.
Speaking at the flag-off of the construction of Arterial Road N1 in Abuja, Wike said Nigerians should value a president who upholds the rule of law.
“This is a country where somebody on social media will say Mr President is a criminal; nothing will happen,” he said. “You are lucky you have a President who believes in the rule of law. Continue to be lucky. There are those you will meet that you won’t be lucky again.”
Wike also addressed the ongoing FCT doctors’ strike, assuring that their allowances would be paid after due process. He dismissed threats of demonstrations, insisting no one could blackmail him.
The minister’s comments came days after rumours of his ill-health, which he dispelled by resuming project inaugurations.
