A police officer’s comment during a clash between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a naval officer has drawn reactions from Nigerians, exposing frustrations over inequality and abuse of power.
According to a report from SAHARA REPORTERS, reactions have trailed a viral video showing a police officer attached to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, cautioning military personnel to stay away from a heated altercation between the minister and a naval officer, A.M. Yerima.
In the clip, the officer was heard saying in Hausa, “The powerful are fighting, while you and I are the ones suffering and hungry. If they’re enjoying the wealth meant for the people, how much do you think they’ll give you?”
The remark has been interpreted as a reflection of discontent within Nigeria’s security ranks.
Reacting, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore described the incident as evidence of “the deep rot of self-interest within the security and political establishment.”
The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) also condemned the incident, calling Wike’s behaviour “reckless and uncivil.”
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Auwal Ibrahim Musa (Rafsanjani), CISLAC warned that public officials must exhibit humility and discipline, noting that Wike’s actions reflect “a consistent pattern of arrogance and lack of emotional control.”
