Donald Trump says he’s “very disappointed” in Elon Musk after the tech billionaire condemned his tax bill. Musk fired back, accusing Trump of hypocrisy and calling the legislation a “disgusting abomination.”

Former President Donald Trump sharply criticized Elon Musk on Thursday, saying he was “very disappointed” in the billionaire’s recent attacks on his proposed tax bill.

“I’ve helped Elon a lot,” Trump told reporters, accusing Musk of turning against the legislation only after learning it would cut EV tax credits and after Trump withdrew Musk’s preferred NASA nominee.

Musk responded on X: “Whatever. Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts… but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill.” He also claimed credit for Trump’s 2024 win, saying, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election.”

The falling out marks a dramatic shift after Musk backed Trump’s campaign with more than $250 million and briefly led a government spending task force.

“Elon knew everything about this bill,” Trump said, suggesting Musk’s outrage was financially motivated. Trump also rejected Musk’s NASA pick, Jared Isaacman, saying, “We don’t have to appoint a Democrat.”

The Senate is currently reviewing the controversial tax package.
