A Department of State Services (DSS) official told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday that Nnamdi Kanu’s broadcasts led to violent killings, including that of former presidential aide Ahmed Gulak.

Testifying in the ongoing terrorism trial of the IPOB leader, the second prosecution witness said Kanu’s sit-at-home orders incited attacks, including the beheading of a military couple and the killing of a retired judge.

The DSS operative identified Kanu as the founder of IPOB and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), stating that Radio Biafra — through which Kanu made inciting statements — was unregistered in Nigeria.

A video of Kanu’s interrogation was played in court, where he admitted founding IPOB and ESN but denied orchestrating violence. He described IPOB as a peaceful group and said ESN was created in response to insecurity in the South-East.

Justice James Omotosho adjourned the case to May 14, 21, and 22 for cross-examination of the witness.
