Woman arrested for selling human remains on Facebook Marketplace

Kymberlee Schopper, 52, owner of Wicked Wonderland in Orange City, Florida, has been charged with the illegal purchase and sale of human bones.

Authorities launched an investigation after receiving a tip in late 2023 that the store was selling human skeletal fragments, including a $35 rib and a $600 partial skull.

Schopper’s daughter and co-owner, Ashley Lelesi, confessed to the sales, stating they were unaware that selling human remains was illegal in Florida. The store had purchased bones from private sellers and sold a skull fragment for $50. Lelesi provided police with receipts for the transactions.

Later, Schopper altered her story, claiming the bones were “educational models” to exploit a legal loophole. However, authorities dismissed this explanation, and Schopper was charged with a second-degree felony, carrying up to 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Lelesi was not charged, and Schopper posted $7,500 bail.
