“She inserts herself into other people’s homes and routines because she’s bored,” she added.
A woman shared on Reddit that her mother-in-law’s prolonged visits have made her feel like a guest in her own home. Married for seven years, the woman explained that her husband’s mother, who lives overseas, stays for nearly six months annually while her visa is processed, rotating between her sons’ homes every two weeks.
Initially, she agreed to the arrangement, believing her mother-in-law was independent. However, she soon felt suffocated by the constant presence. “I can’t walk through my own house without feeling like I have to engage or at least acknowledge her presence 24/7,” she wrote.
Her mother-in-law, described as clingy and intrusive, frequently makes inappropriate remarks and disregards boundaries. “She inserts herself into other people’s homes and routines because she’s bored,” she added.
Despite expressing her discomfort, her husband dismisses her concerns. “It doesn’t feel like my home anymore,” she said, adding, “I’m at the point where I just don’t want her to stay with us at all.”
