The World Bank will on Tuesday approve $750m in loans to Nigeria for broadband expansion and health security.
The World Bank is set to approve $750m in loans for Nigeria on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, according to documents published on its website.
The funding will support two projects: a $500m facility for the Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth in Nigeria (BRIDGE) project and a $250m loan under the Health Security Programme in Western and Central Africa, Nigeria – Phase II.
The BRIDGE project, led by the Ministry of Communications, aims to expand climate-resilient broadband access to underserved communities. Communications Minister Bosun Tijani described it as “the most ambitious and foundational digital infrastructure project in Nigeria’s history.”
The health programme will strengthen Nigeria’s ability to detect and respond to public health emergencies. Economists welcomed concessional funding but warned about Nigeria’s rising debt, which reached N149tn in 2025.
