Elon Musk’s X is cracking down on parody accounts, enforcing new rules from April 10 to curb impersonation and scams. The platform announced that such accounts must now place “parody” at the front of their name and are barred from using the same profile images as the accounts they mimic.

“These changes are designed to help users better understand the unaffiliated nature of PCF accounts and reduce the risk of confusion or impersonation,” the company said.

Since Musk’s takeover of the platform, formerly known as Twitter, verified badges were removed and impersonation surged. Though parody was permitted under free speech guidelines, scammers exploited the loophole to pose as celebrities—often Musk himself—running cryptocurrency scams and viral hoaxes.
