Xi Jinping mourns Buhari, hails late Nigerian leader as China’s friend

Chinese President Xi Jinping has described the death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari as the loss of a dear friend to the Chinese people.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has expressed sorrow over the death of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, calling him a valued friend of China.

In a condolence message to President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, Xi conveyed the sympathies of the Chinese government and people to Buhari’s family and all Nigerians.

He described Buhari as “an important leader” who “dedicated himself to exploring a development path suited to Nigeria’s national conditions” and made “outstanding contributions to national unity and progress.”

Xi added that the late Nigerian leader “was highly respected in the international community” and remained a staunch supporter of Nigeria-China ties.

He noted Buhari’s role in promoting China-Africa cooperation and strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

“His passing represents a tremendous loss to the Nigerian people and the loss of a dear friend to the Chinese people,” Xi said.

He affirmed China’s readiness to continue deepening its comprehensive strategic partnership with Nigeria.
