Yaba building collapse: death toll rises as another body is found

“Search and rescue operations are still ongoing,” NEMA’s Mrs Ibitayo Adenike said.

One more body has been recovered from the rubble of a three-storey building that collapsed while under construction on Friday night in Yaba, Lagos, raising the death toll to three, with four others rescued.

Mrs Ibitayo Adenike, Acting Head of NEMA’s Lagos Operations Office, confirmed the recovery on Sunday, noting that emergency responders continue search and rescue operations.

The building, situated at No. 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, collapsed around 8:30 p.m., trapping several people beneath the debris.

Agencies involved at the scene include the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force. Adenike stressed that operations to locate any remaining victims are ongoing.
