Yahaya Bello demands arrest of Senator Natasha over ‘assassination plot’ claim

“By accusing our client of plotting an assassination… Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan has gravely damaged our client’s reputation.”

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over alleged defamatory remarks made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan during a rally in Okehi, Kogi State, on April 1.

In the petition, signed by his solicitor N.A. Abubakar, Bello urged the police to invite the senator to provide evidence or face arrest and prosecution.

At the rally, Akpoti-Uduaghan allegedly claimed Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed Bello to fund her recall and orchestrate her assassination outside Abuja to disguise it as mob violence.

“By accusing our client of plotting an assassination… Sen. Akpoti-Uduaghan has gravely damaged our client’s reputation,” the petition stated.

Bello’s legal team also demanded a public apology and retraction within 14 days, warning of civil and criminal action.

“Our client has long considered Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to be erratic and often driven by delusional narratives,” the petition reads.

The petition warned that inaction could “embolden others to weaponise political platforms for dangerous falsehoods.”
