Veteran entertainer and activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has condemned the renaming of the Lagos bus stop formerly known as “Charly Boy Bus Stop” to “Baddo Bus Stop” in honour of rapper Olamide.
The announcement was made by Kolade David, Chairman of the Bariga Local Council Development Area, who said the move was to honour notable individuals contributing to Bariga’s growth.
Charly Boy, reacting on X, said, “You can rename a place… but you can’t rename a legacy. You can replace the signboard… but you can’t erase the spirit.” He described the renaming as “fear of a boy who refused to bow.”
He added, “That name was not given by politicians. It was named by the people… the same people Fada fought for, walked with, and empowered.”
Charly Boy insisted his legacy lies not in names but in impact: “Legacy isn’t on a signboard. It’s in the hearts you changed… You can’t erase fire. Area Fada no dey finish.”
