Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has frowned at plans by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to zone the party’s presidential ticket to the North as it did in the 2023 presidential election.
Rivers State’s former governor, Nyesom Wike, has cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against repeating its previous pattern of fielding northern presidential candidates. In a veiled reference to Atiku Abubakar, Wike questioned the logic behind the strategy, warning that it could relegate the party to a perpetual second place. “PDP will do what then? You will come back then and say, since APC is sending it to the north, let’s give the north our presidential ticket. What kind of smartness is that?” he queried.
Wike emphasized the need for the PDP to consider a shift in its political calculations ahead of the 2027 elections, urging inclusivity and national balance. He pointed out that if the All Progressives Congress (APC) retains power in 2027, zoning the ticket to the North again in 2031 would not be strategic.
Meanwhile, Atiku Abubakar reaffirmed his commitment to contesting again, saying, “As long as I am alive and healthy,” drawing inspiration from Abraham Lincoln.
