A new YouGov poll reveals that 50% of Conservative members want Kemi Badenoch to resign before the 2029 election.

Nearly half of Conservative Party members want Kemi Badenoch to step down before the 2029 general election, a YouGov poll has revealed, exposing growing discontent within the party.

The survey found that 50 percent of respondents believe Badenoch should resign before the vote, while only a minority back her continued leadership.

Badenoch, 45, became the first Black woman to lead a major UK political party in November 2024 after the Conservatives’ crushing loss to Labour. Her tenure has since faced internal criticism and weak polling numbers.

Former immigration minister Robert Jenrick emerged as the preferred alternative with 22 percent support. Some respondents also favoured closer ties with Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage.

Badenoch, born in London to Nigerian parents, has faced backlash over past comments about Nigeria. Her office declined to comment on the poll, but aides insisted she remains focused on uniting the party and rebuilding voter trust.
