At least five worshippers were killed during dawn prayers in Zamfara as bandits attacked a mosque in Tsafe LGA.

At least five worshippers were shot dead when bandits attacked a mosque during early morning prayers in Yandoto village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident, which occurred on Friday, left several others injured and sparked panic in the community. Witnesses said the attackers opened fire inside the mosque, killing five people instantly, while abducting an unspecified number before fleeing into the forest.

A resident described the assault as “barbaric and inhuman,” adding that some of the wounded are receiving treatment. Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar said he had yet to be briefed.

The attack comes barely a week after gunmen abducted about 40 worshippers in Gidan Turbe, also in Tsafe LGA.

Meanwhile, in Kadauri village, Maru LGA, over 100 illegal miners are feared dead after a gold pit collapsed on Thursday. Eight bodies have been recovered, with witnesses reporting that rescuers also suffocated during efforts to save the trapped miners.
