“We in Ukraine have repeatedly said that finding real solutions can be truly effective at the level of leaders,” Zelensky said in a post on social media.

KYIV — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday called for a direct meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, amid renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war, following talks between a special envoy of former U.S. President Donald Trump and Putin in Moscow.

Trump had praised the meeting between his envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the Russian leader as “highly productive.” Zelensky later confirmed a phone call with Trump, who expressed optimism about meeting Putin “very soon.” European leaders were also on the call.

“We in Ukraine have repeatedly said that finding real solutions can be truly effective at the level of leaders,” Zelensky said in a post on social media.

He emphasized the need to set a clear agenda and timing for such a meeting and reaffirmed Ukraine’s call for Russia to take concrete steps toward ending the war.

Zelensky added he would continue consultations with leaders from Germany, France, Italy, and national security advisers.
