Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has urged U.S. President Donald Trump to provide Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv, hinting that he will nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he agrees.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday intensified pressure on U.S. leadership by calling for the delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles, while floating a potential Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Donald Trump should he accede.
Zelensky told reporters that “if he sends Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, Kyiv will nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize,” adding the hope that such a move could shift Russian calculations. The plea comes as Kyiv seeks deeper military support from Washington to hit strategic targets in Russia.
Trump — who has not yet committed to supplying the missiles — responded by saying he wants to know Ukraine’s intended plans before moving forward. “I think I want to find out what they’re doing with them,” he said.
Moscow has warned that supplying advanced long-range strike capabilities to Ukraine would represent a severe escalation and risk provoking retaliation. Tensions rise as Kyiv awaits a definitive U.S. decision and considers broader diplomatic leverage.
