Trump voiced disappointment in Putin’s failure to pursue Ukraine peace but gave no clear consequences.

US President Donald Trump has expressed frustration with Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s failure to pursue a peace deal in Ukraine, despite their recent summit in Alaska.

“I’m very disappointed in President Putin, I can say that. We had a great relationship, I’m very disappointed,” Trump said on the Scott Jennings radio show, when asked if he felt betrayed by Moscow’s actions.

Since their meeting, Trump urged Putin to hold direct talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but Russia has instead intensified its assault on Kyiv. Although Trump warned of consequences if Putin and Zelensky fail to meet, he did not specify what measures would follow.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the administration was “examining options” for sanctions this week, noting that Putin had “in a despicable, despicable manner, increased the bombing campaign.”

Trump, however, dismissed fears of a Russia-China axis, insisting the US military remains unrivaled.
