Ukraine’s air force says Russia launched 550 drones and missiles… the single largest attack of its kind.
Russia launched its most extensive drone-and-missile barrage—550 weapons, including 539 Shahed drones and 11 missiles—on Kyiv and surrounding regions in a single night, injuring at least 23 people and damaging multiple districts and infrastructure. The assault struck rail lines, residential buildings, and public facilities, igniting fires and triggering a surge of air-raid alarms. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted approximately half of the onslaught.
The attack followed a phone conversation between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump later said he “had made no progress” and was “very disappointed” in Putin. The Kremlin described the call as “frank and constructive,” with Putin reiterating demands for Ukraine to drop its NATO ambitions.
Ukraine’s foreign minister urged immediate new sanctions and military aid, warning that the temporary pause in U.S. arms deliveries risks emboldening Russia.
