The PDP has lost Enugu Governor Peter Mbah and Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri to the APC, cutting its governors’ tally to eight.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered fresh setbacks following the defections of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Their exit leaves the PDP with only eight governors, down from 11 after the 2023 general elections. With the latest switch, the APC now controls 26 states, while Labour Party, APGA, and NNPP each hold one.

Mbah announced his defection in Enugu on Tuesday, while Diri confirmed his move in Yenagoa a day later, citing “obvious reasons.”

The remaining PDP governors include Ahmadu Fintiri, Bala Mohammed, Caleb Mutfwang, Agbu Kefas, Dauda Lawal, Seyi Makinde, Siminalayi Fubara, and Ademola Adeleke.

Reacting, PDP Governors’ Forum Chairman, Bala Mohammed, admitted the defections had unsettled the party but said efforts were ongoing to “steady the ship” ahead of the November 15–16 national convention in Ibadan.
