A French court heard emotional testimony as the father of murdered schoolgirl Lola Daviet was said to have died from grief ahead of the trial of her accused killer.
The father of 12-year-old Lola Daviet, whose 2022 killing shocked France, has died from grief as the trial of her accused murderer continues in Paris, the family told the court this week.
Lola was found dead in October 2022 near her family’s home in the French capital. Prosecutors allege that an Algerian woman who was in France illegally is responsible for the crime.
The defendant, Dahbia B., faces charges of murder and sexual assault.
Lola’s mother, Delphine Daviet, testified that her husband, Johan, “died of grief” months after their daughter’s death. She said he left a farewell note expressing love and confusion over the brutality of the attack.
The high-profile case has reignited debate in France about immigration enforcement and protection of minors. Prosecutors say the accused had received an expulsion order before the crime.
The trial continues before the Paris Assize Court.
