The United States has revoked more than 80,000 visas, including those belonging to Nigerians, as part of a major immigration enforcement action linked to former President Donald Trump’s security policies.

The United States Department of State has revoked over 80,000 visas belonging to Nigerians and other foreign nationals as part of a broad immigration enforcement initiative under former President Donald Trump’s administration.

A statement issued on Thursday said the revocations aligned with Trump’s pledge to strengthen U.S. border and national security, describing the move as “promises made, promises kept.”

The department said the affected individuals were linked to offenses including assault, theft, and driving under the influence (DUI). A senior official confirmed that these three categories made up nearly half of all visa cancellations in 2024.

The enforcement, which also targets terrorism links and visa violations, comes amid heightened scrutiny of foreign nationals. Officials warned that visa holders expressing views deemed hostile to U.S. interests could face further sanctions.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the revocations underscored Washington’s commitment to “protecting American lives and advancing U.S. foreign policy priorities.”
