Eze hails Arsenal return as fulfilment of mother’s prayer

Eberechi Eze says his £67.5m Arsenal move fulfilled his mother’s long-time prayer after his release as a teenager.

Eberechi Eze has described his £67.5m transfer to Arsenal as the fulfilment of his mother’s prayers, completing an emotional return to the club that released him at 13. The 27-year-old midfielder, signed from Crystal Palace after interest from Tottenham, said joining his boyhood team felt like destiny. “I remember the day I got released, my mum said a prayer that this reverse would happen. For me, this is a realisation of a prayer that we prayed for. This is deeper than anyone can understand. I can see God’s hand in it, so I know it’s meant to be,” he told Arsenal’s website.

Eze, who will wear the No10 shirt, admitted he felt “on trial” every time he faced Arsenal at the Emirates. He added: “It’s a privilege and an honour, because I know the names that have worn this shirt before me. I just want to win.”
