A joint press conference is planned, the first between U.S. and Russian leaders since 2018.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump are scheduled to hold a one-on-one meeting in Alaska on Friday to discuss potential resolution of the ongoing Ukraine conflict, the Kremlin confirmed today. “It is probably obvious to everyone that the central topic will be the resolution of the Ukraine crisis,” said Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, adding that the leaders will also address broader regional and international security concerns.
The summit, to be held at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, begins at 11:30 am local time and will be followed by delegation-level discussions over a working breakfast. A joint press conference is planned—marking the first such event between U.S. and Russian leaders since 2018.
In Washington, Trump described the encounter as “a feel-out meeting a little bit,” aimed at gauging Putin’s willingness to negotiate. “If it’s a fair deal, I’ll reveal it to the European Union leaders and to NATO leaders and also to President Zelensky,” he said.
