“This exercise is aimed at strengthening existing structures and enhancing the green space of the state…” – Commissioner for Environment

The Anambra State Government has directed residents and property owners across public view areas to repaint buildings deemed dilapidated or visually defacing, beginning July 1.

This directive, announced in a statement by Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Felix Odimegwu, is part of efforts to improve the state’s aesthetic appeal and environmental sustainability.

Targeted areas include Onitsha, Awka, Nkpor, Nnewi, and Ekwuluobia. Structures that have not been repainted in over a decade or whose paint is visibly worn will be subject to inspection and enforcement.

“This exercise is aimed at strengthening existing structures and enhancing the green space of the state,” Odimegwu said, citing the Anambra State Environmental Management, Protection and Administration Law 2024.

“Regulators will begin field operations from July 1 to enforce compliance,” he added.

The initiative is aimed at achieving a “clean, beautiful and eco-friendly Anambra,” the commissioner noted, urging residents and corporate entities to maintain and repaint properties within public view zones.
