The Senate has called on President Bola Tinubu to sign the Forest Security Service Bill into law as part of a broader strategy to address rising insecurity in rural and forested areas.

The Senate has urged President Bola Tinubu to sign the Nigerian Forest Security Service (Establishment) Bill, 2025, into law to help tackle growing insecurity in forested regions.
The call came after motions by Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, and Sen. Sunday Karimi, following the abduction of Oba James Dada Ogunyanda, the Obalohun of Okoloke, in Kogi State, and deadly attacks on Benue communities by suspected herdsmen.
In one motion, lawmakers expressed concern over the monarch’s abduction on May 15, saying: “The suspected kidnappers stormed his palace around midnight, firing gunshots before whisking him away.”
They urged the Federal Government to deploy security agencies for the monarch’s immediate rescue and noted that the bill could accommodate the President’s proposed Forest Guard initiative.
Separately, the Senate passed a bill mandating government MDAs to prioritise local automobile producers. Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin said, “Supporting indigenous companies will help grow our economy, create jobs, and reduce our dependence on imports.”
