Sam Omatseye, chairman of The Nation Newspaper’s editorial board and ally of President Bola Tinubu, has written a scathing tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died Sunday in London. Omatseye described Buhari as “dead of ideas, selfish and hypocritical serial losers,” accusing him of presiding over a “cranky and conservative government” that mismanaged Nigeria’s economy.

“He stood guard over a government that had no way to generate money except by printing and borrowing,” Omatseye wrote, blaming Buhari for a debt of over N30 trillion and worsening the economic situation inherited from former President Jonathan.

He also criticized Buhari’s handling of succession plans, stating, “He dithered on his successor… he tried to undercut the best man in his whole political career: Bola Tinubu.” Omatseye further alleged that Buhari backed former Senate President Ahmad Lawan instead of Tinubu, calling the act “hypocritical” and reflecting a “lack of integrity.”
