Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Cameroon’s President Paul Biya on his re-election, pledging to deepen political and economic cooperation as both nations mark 55 years of diplomatic ties in 2026.

According to PUNCH reporting, Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated President Paul Biya of Cameroon on his re-election, reaffirming Beijing’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing partnership with the Central African nation.

In a statement released on Friday via the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, Xi described China and Cameroon as “traditional friends” whose relationship has continued to flourish through mutual political trust and cooperation across various sectors.

“China attaches great importance to the development of China-Cameroon relations,” Xi said, adding that both nations have “consistently supported each other on core interests and major concerns.”

He further stated that China was ready to collaborate closely with Biya’s government to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which he said would “promote the in-depth development of the comprehensive strategic partnership” and deliver “tangible benefits” to both peoples.

Xi also noted that 2026 would mark the 55th anniversary of China–Cameroon diplomatic relations, calling it an opportunity to strengthen ties further.
